Wisconsin produces about 3.5 billion pounds of cheese each year! Hundreds of thousands of pouches of shredded, sliced and cubed Wisconsin cheese travel a Nercon conveyor on their way to grocery stores nationwide. And, producers of bulk cheese blocks and slabs rely on Nercon for reliable, efficient, high quality conveyors too, and not just in Wisconsin.

“Wisconsin is the Big Cheese in production, but we also partner with cheese and dairy producers in other states,” says Jason Gazzana, an account manager at Nercon. “Because we have such a wide product suite for all levels of sanitation and non-clean area line operations as well as in-house electrical controls development and integration, we can provide turnkey production lines that reliably keep the cheese flowing.”

From Blocks to Blockbuster Cheese Products

When one of our system integrator partners had an extensive process-to-palletizing project for a bulk cheese customer, we were happy to collaborate and deliver the perfect solution.  

Together, our teams developed the line layouts to meet specific goals:

• Optimize throughput of the 40-pound blocks of raw cheese, from wrapping and sealing to case packing and palletizing. A second case packer was added to handle high throughput rates.
• Develop production lines to meet floor space constraints 
• Support sanitation requirements between the clean area and packaging. Three different hygienic levels in our versatile HydroCore® conveyor line offered options to help ensure appropriate line sanitation.  
• Enable quick line changeovers to accommodate multiple types of cheese

“We were very thorough in our QA testing, and our team went onsite to the line to help install and get it started,” says Jason. “ All of this helped the implementation go smoothly as planned. Our integrator customer was very satisfied with how it all came together.” 

The cases of raw cheese are shipped nationwide to other food producers to be processed further into various types of cheese products.
